Seminar dengan tema “Tantangan Investasi dalam Keberlanjutan Sosial dan Lingkungan Hidup” akan menghadirkan tiga pembicara, yakni dari Kementerian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (KLHK) Republik Indonesia, dari PT Asia Green Capital (AGC), dan terakhir dari Tim Nasional Percepatan Penanggulangan Kemiskinan (TNP2K). Maternal and neonatal mortality is still a problem for many developing countries, including Indonesia. The Government of Indonesia has a commitment to achieve Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), particularly in decreasing maternal and neonatal mortality in Indonesia.
Defficiencies in the provision of health services, including for maternal and neonatal, are often said to be due to the lack of monitoring of the public demand for services. That is the reason for Expanding Maternal and Neonatal Survival (EMAS) Program through the implementation of Citizen Report Card (CRC) on Emergency Services for Maternal and Neonatal Health.
PNPM-Rural is one of the programs under PNPM Mandiri, which is the National Program for Community Empowerment by the Government of Indonesia. The program aims to alleviate poverty and improve employment opportunities through community empowerment. Despite the good intention and the mechanism set up for public participation and engagement to monitor the implementation of the program, there are pitfalls identified in the implementation of PNPM-Rural program. The findings in this essay are based on the field research conducted in a couple of districts in Bekasi, West Java.
High poverty rate and unemployment rate remain major issues in Indonesia. According to the Statistics Indonesia, the number of poor people in Indonesia in 2007 was 37.17 million people, or around 17% of the total population in Indonesia. To tackle the issue of poverty and unemployment, the Government of Indonesia introduced the National Program for Community Empowerment, or also known as PNPM Mandiri (Program Nasional Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Mandiri), in 2007. PNPM Mandiri is meant to eradicate poverty and increase employment opportunities through community empowerment. At the core of community empowerment is the participation of the community members themselves in bettering their own lives and taking charge of the poverty alleviation and employment programs provided through the PNPM Mandiri.
